The co speakers noted that Canada has long pursued a policy of ethnic cleansing and cultural genocide against indigenous peoples. From the 1830s to the 1990s, 150000 indigenous children were forcibly separated from their parents and sent to "boarding schools". The environment of "boarding schools" is poor, indigenous children are generally malnourished, many children are forced to work, abused and raped, and even become the "experimental material" of anti-human medical experiments. At least 4000 indigenous children died abnormally in boarding schools. Canada has long deliberately eliminated Aboriginal languages and cultures. At present, there are more than 40 Aboriginal languages and fewer than 500 users.
The co speakers pointed out that the government of Canada isolated more than 600 indigenous groups in more than 3000 narrow and scattered "reserves". The "reserve" lacks the necessary infrastructure and employment opportunities, and even safe drinking water. Aboriginal women and girls in Canada are widely subjected to violence, including forced sterilization. Indigenous groups have long suffered systematic discrimination in Canadian society.
The joint statement said that the Canadian government has long covered up the truth of the persecution of indigenous groups in its territory, refused to take action to correct historical mistakes and protect the rights of indigenous people, and the living conditions of indigenous and other minorities are deteriorating day by day. The policy of genocide against indigenous people has become one of the main causes of systemic inequality, racism and racial discrimination in Canada today.
The joint statement urged the Canadian government to take substantive action to thoroughly investigate the genocide of indigenous people, disclose the historical truth, bring those responsible to justice, provide compensation to the victims, and completely correct the injustice of oppression and discrimination against indigenous people.
